At the Esri Conference in San Diego in July, MAPPS will host a member-guest luncheon. It will be on Tuesday, July 24 at 12:00 noon at the Marriott Gaslamp, 660 K St., San Diego, just a block from the Convention Center. MAPPS members are encouraged to invite Owners/Principals/Senior Managers of private sector geospatial firms that are interested in joining MAPPS to attend the event as a guest. All members and guests must register in advance of the lunch. Non-member guests must be accompanied by a current MAPPS Member in good standing to attend the event. Speakers: Our guest speakers will be Kevin Gallagher, Associate Director for Core Science, USGS, and Jerry Johnston, the new Geospatial Information Officer (GIO) for the Department of the Interior.
USGS is developing a national elevation program, known as "3DEP" (3-dimentional elevation program) http://nationalmap.gov/3dep/neea.html.
USGS is also proposing a "Contracting as a Service" (CaaS) feature for the Geospatial Platform.
Messrs. Gallagher and Johnston will discuss these initiatives and other Federal activities affecting and creating business opportunities for private geospatial firms.
