Navigating through sinkholes on the way to potholes - an exchange of management best practices.

To motivate an exchange of management best practices during the conference between attendees, Ken will discuss some of Trimble's key management practices - warts and all - for strategy and business development, organization, personnel development, R&D, and sales. A critical question for us all is which best practices that worked prior to September 15, 2008 (Black Monday, 2008) are still valid or need to be changed in this environment. And he will discuss how Trimble looks for business opportunities in problems as mundane as potholes.

8:30AMMoving from "Project Management " to "Instrumented Processes"
Why are projects so notoriously difficult to bring in on time and budget? Perhaps it is because we are locked in to a paradigm of considering everything we do a "project." In this presentation we explore the ideas of applying "process management" at the micro level and "project management" at the macro level, logically tied together by the precepts of Earned Value Management. In these challenging economic conditions, this new approach to managing engagements could spell the difference between success and failure.
