The following information was obtained by Perkins while at the Applanix users conference:
NOAA’s Remote Sensing Research Team on presented a report on Wed. October 13th at the Applanix User’s Conference which included information on NOAA’s collection of digital imagery immediately after land fall of Hurricane Ivan (Gulf Shores, Alabama) and Hurricane Jeanne (Ft. Pierce, Florida). Collection were flown with the DSS sensor at 7,500’ amt, producing a gsd pixel size of 38cm. Imagery was posted on the web within 48 hrs. after collection.
The immediate observation is that there might be duplication of efforts, with both NOAA and USACE/FEMA doing flights for the same events………
The New SF-330 Form
Don Evick provided a briefing on the SF-330. (click here for Power Point). The form is working well, Don thanked MAPPS for the comments provided during the review period before the final forms were released. The most common mistakes are being made in Part 2 of the form.
Don encouraged MAPPS members to submit their SF-330 Part 2’s to the ORCA, and also informed that the ACASS system is being modernized. Info on ORCA is in Don’s power point.
Don’s retirement is scheduled for the end of this year. The committee thanked him for his years of service and participation with MAPPS on the liaison committee.
Proposed FAR changes on definition of Surveying and Mapping
MK informed on the USACE’s comments submitted in support of MAPPS efforts to have the definition of Surveying and Mapping revised by the FAR Board. President Fleming briefed the committee on the present status of the FAR board review.
TSA briefing related to TFR (temporary flight restrictions)
Committee Chair Perkins briefed the group on the current problem with TSA and TFR’s interfering with aerial flight operations. The committee was advised of the TSA policy of requesting a letter from the cognizant government entity for who the flight is being flown for (directly or indirectly). USACE and OSD were asked to help inform there peers on this situation in an effort that they will be knowledgeable of this need if a letter is requested by a MAPPS member firm performing flight operations.
Committee Meeting adjourned at 3:00 PM
A thank you to members Ron Drake and Dave Hart for assistance with note taking, recording attendance and keeping the meeting on schedule.
