MAPPS Task Forces are special committees appointed by the President. These groups focus on a specific issue affecting the association and members.

Shall monitor developments in the implementation of federal and state broadband mapping requirements, legislation and implementation; develop recommendations for legislation and administrative reforms; and keep the MAPPS Board and membership informed of issues in the broadband mapping market.

Monitor and develop recommendations on a Federal land inventory and the establishment of a multipurpose cadastre to inventory and manage the portfolio of mortgages it now has as a result of the foreclosure and financial institutions bailouts, and to provide an early warning system to help identify and prevent similar mortgage trends in the future.

Develop recommendations on enhanced use of geospatial data to improve the FEMA Flood Map modernization program, including Flood Insurance Rate Maps, Flood Hazard Boundary Maps, Flood Boundary and Floodway Maps, and Flood Insurance Study reports.

Develop a proposal for U.S. national geospatial data to quantify the effects of climate change through a system measure, monitor, verify and validate its alleged phenomena, make recommendations on geospatial data that would be essential to any program to regulate or limit activities that contribute to climate change, make recommendations on geospatial data that would be essential to a cap and trade program, and recommendations on a geospatial program for a “smart grid” for new electric power and

Develop recommendations on enhanced use of geospatial data, and the private sector, to improve the Hydrographic Services Improvement Act, an integrated Oceans and Coastal Mapping program and a Digital Coast activity.

Explore the current membership structure in order to assure growth for the association. The scope will include exploration of trends in the profession (mergers & acquisitions), a review of the definitions associated with each membership (to assure that emerging markets/technologies are covered in the MAPPS definitions), the dollar amount charged, and efforts to enforce compliance.

Monitor legislative, administrative and audit activities by states and local government affecting sales tax on photogrammetric and other professional geospatial services and advise and assist member firms when dealing with such activities to help keep such services exempt for these taxes.

Investigate the problem of underground infrastructure location and develop a white paper showing the benefits of including underground infrastructure as a data layer in national spatial data initiatives, encourage FGDC to include these features as an NSDI data layer, and draft a program proposal or legislation to address this issue.
