Due to the extended government shutdown, we have postponed the Geospatial & Engineering International Conference until 2014. Even with the government opening, the shutdown had an adverse affect on our ability to properly plan and prepare for the conference, as well as imposed significant constraints on our speakers and attendees.
We are working to reschedule the conference in 2014. In so doing, we will endeavor to avoid conflicts with other conferences in the geospatial and engineering communities that are already scheduled for the coming year.
We want to thank our speakers, sponsors, media partners, participating organizations and members of all our associations for support, understanding, and cooperation throughout the planning of the conference. Thanks as well to our hosts, The Westin Alexandria, for their teamwork during this process. We have confirmed that the venue for the conference in 2014 will go unchanged, subject to the selection of new dates.
Q. The 2013 Geospatial & Engineering International Conference is postponed to what date?
A. We now intend to hold the conference in the Fall of 2014. Actual dates will be announced shortly.
Q. Will the 2014 conference still be at the Westin Hotel in Alexandria, VA?
A. Yes, the conference organizers and The Westin Hotel are committed to a conference at the hotel in 2014.
Q. Will the agenda change?
A. At this time it is not our intent to change the program. We are working with all of the scheduled 2013 speakers to reconfirm their participation in 2014, subject to their availability.
Q. Does the theme also stay the same?
A. It is our intent to keep "International Exporting” as the theme of the conference.
Q. I plan to attend the rescheduled conference in the Fall 2014. Do I have to cancel or re-register for the event?
A. No. Because the event is postponed, not canceled, MAPPS is maintaining all registrations for the new dates (once confirmed). All current registrations for the Geospatial & Engineering International Conference will automatically transfer to the new dates in Fall 2014. Attendees will receive a new confirmation email once conference dates and details are confirmed.
Q. What if the Fall 2014 date doesn’t work for me?
A. MAPPS will be in contact with all who paid a registration fee for the 2013 conference regarding credits for 2014 conferences or refunds.
Q. How do I request a refund?
A. If you would like a refund instead of the credit, refund requests should be submitted in writing to Margaret Bulas, Finance and Administration Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Requests based on scheduling conflicts with the Fall 2014 dates must be received by Dec. 2, 2013, to be eligible. MAPPS will refund the registration fee less a $10 administrative processing fee. Requests received after Dec. 2, 2013, are ineligible for refund.
Q. Can I make a substitution at no cost if I am unable to support the new dates?
A. Yes, we will happily support substitutions of another person from your firm or organization. Please send your substitution requests in writing to email@example.com. A substitution credit can also be applied to other MAPPS events in 2014.
Q. What happens if I cancel my registration now and later learn I’m available to attend?
A. Registration will be reopened once dates for the 2014 conference are confirmed.
Q. What if my company used a Member discount code to register for the conference, but the MAPPS membership is going to expire before the new dates? Will I have to pay more?
A. No. Although we hope you’ll renew your membership, we will honor any existing Member comp codes/registrations made for the original dates of the Conference.
Q. Do I need to cancel my hotel room?
A. Hotel reservations at the Westin Hotel - Alexandria for the Geospatial & Engineering International Conference were cancelled by the hotel when the conference was postponed. However, if you are still planning to be in the Washington, DC area on the dates the conference was to take place and wish to stay at the Westin Alexandria, you still have an opportunity to re-book your hotel reservation at the conference rate. If you would like to re-book your room reservation at the Westin Alexandria, please email firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Monday, October 28. If Sally does not receive an email by Monday, you will not be able to secure the conference hotel rate.
