PA-MAPPS will bestow its third Geospatial Excellence
Awards to its Member firms to recognize the professionalism, value, integrity,
and achievement that the firm’s staff has demonstrated over the previous year.
A distinguished and impartial panel of three judges
will evaluate the submitted projects. This panel will review each submission
and select two finalists and a Grand Award will be presented to represent the
PA-MAPPS Project of the Year.
Showcasing the Year’s Best Projects
All submitted projects will be recognized for their
contribution to the geospatial profession. These awards provide an opportunity
for our members to obtain national recognition and to showcase their projects
at the Pennsylvania GIS conference.
Any PA-MAPPS Member Firm in good standing is eligible
to enter the awards program.
Applications, including an entry fee of $100, client/owner release, and all project materials must be received in the MAPPS office (1856 Old Reston Avenue, Suite 205, Reston, VA 20190) by close of business
Friday, April 11, 2014.
Winners will be announced at the Pennsylvania GIS Conference on May 7, 2014.

2 Firms may
submit up to two projects to be

4 Each entry
must include an entry fee, a bound submission (i.e. notebook, spiral, or GBC),
and a photographic display panel in compliance with the entry rules.
5 The area
of geographic extent of the project entered into the competition must be
focused on Pennsylvania and final deliverable must have been accepted by the
client between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2013. Entries must use technologies
related to the geospatial profession including but not limited too:
· Airborne and Satellite Data Acquisition
· Photogrammetry/Elevation Data Generation
· Remote Sensing
· Surveying/Field Data Collection
All winners will be highlighted by MAPPS/PA-MAPPS in
press releases, reprints for MAPPS/PA-MAPPS use, and the use of the entry
materials at trade shows and conferences throughout the year to demonstrate the
exemplary work performed by PA-MAPPS members, which also indirectly benefit all
PA-MAPPS members and the profession in general. The public relations and
marketing value for participation in the awards program will be considerable
and, where applicable, your client/owner will also be highlighted in the
process. Further benefits are gained through feature stories presented in firm
brochures, newsletters, and other publications.

Preparing Your Entry
This section describes all required submission
materials for entering the 2014 PA-MAPPS Geospatial Products and Services
Excellence Awards competition. All materials must be submitted exactly as
designated below. If the submission does not meet the requirements listed, it
may be disqualified. Extraneous material will be discarded.

A Bound Submission (bound within 1/2” notebook, or
GBC, or spiral) of the
following (on 8.5” x 11”, 12 point type, single spaced):
PC Compatible CD-ROM or DVD with a digital
copy of the Bound Submission in Adobe PDF format. All graphics used to create
the photographic display panel as well as the final panel must be prepared as
JPEGs with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Graphics may be used by
MAPPS/PA-MAPPS to display and publicize so it is extremely important that firms
submit high quality, high resolution graphics. Client/Owner release document confirming that the project was substantially completed and ready for use between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2013 and authorize publication of the project's details with respect to its complexity, innovative application of technology or techniques, and value to the geospatial profession and the public. Signed Letter from the Client/Owner,
on letterhead, not more than two pages, describing the relationship the client/
owner has with the PA-MAPPS member firm submitting the entry and how the
project exceeded the client/owner’s need and expectations. Project Description, not more than four pages, addressing
the rating guidelines outlined in this brochure. Include the role of the
entrant’s firm in the project and the role of other firms participating in the
project. Describe in layman’s terms what makes this project unique and worthy
of recognition. Graphics or photos may be imbedded within the project
description as necessary to supplement text. Tables may also be used, but must
be neat and legible. A 7” x 7” version of the Photographic Display Panel.
B Photographic Display
One copy of the following (all text must be no smaller
than 30 point type for descriptions and 26 point type for captions and
graphics) One Photographic Panel, 30” x 30” square, plotted on high quality
paper (or the equivalent), without lamination, framing or mounting. No more
than five photos or graphics shall be used to make up the panel. A background
photo or image shall not count toward the photo count. Include the following
information on the panel: Entrant firm’s name / logo and location, client’s /
owner’s name / logo and location, the title of the project and its location,
and the PA-MAPPS logo. Panel text and photos shall demonstrate the challenges
and solutions provided for the project submitted for consideration. No more
that 250 words shall be displayed on the panel.
