Government Reform & Utilization of Geospatial Technologies at the State Level

In early 2012 MAPPS sent a letter to the governors of all 50 states. Following the 2012 elections governors are beginning to implement changes to improve the operation of their state governments, lower costs, increase productivity, reduce the size of government, balance the budget and create private sector jobs.

In this letter, MAPPS provides a "checklist" of issues affecting the private sector geospatial community for each governor to review in his or her own state. The items on this list are longstanding MAPPS positions which governors should consider when developing and implementing reform initiatives. These recommendations will increase private sector opportunities, particularly for MAPPS member firms, reduce unfair government competition, and enhance a state's utilization of geospatial technologies to make government more efficient.
