PA-MAPPS President Announcement

Posted By Rob Rowe, Friday, December 7, 2012

As announced at the PA-MAPPS meeting on November 14 and in an email sent November 26, a vacancy on the PA-MAPPS Board of Directors was created by the resignation of Andy Pickford (BAE Systems). Per the bylaws, the Board of Directors appoints a new Director whose term will end at the next general election, to be held in June 2013.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ashis Pal, geographIT, to the Director position. It is because of Ashis’s advocacy that we started PA-MAPPS and he has graciously agreed to fulfill this Board position until the next general election.

Additionally, Jim Knudson, Michael Baker Jr., Inc. has agreed to chair the PAMAP committee I established in June. The PAMAP program was not only a revenue stream for many of us, but also it is vital to the overall geospatial community throughout the state. This is a timely committee with new programs in development at the national level through USGS and authorization in the MAP-21 Act. With Jim’s experience and knowledge of the program, I believe he will be a great resource as the chair of this committee.

As a final update, we continue to work with partners and stakeholders for a geospatial coordination council. The Board is working to fulfill the directive provided by the membership to continue to advocate for a coordination council by way of legislation or executive order and to support efforts to achieve this goal.

Please save the date for the 2013 Pennsylvania GIS Conference to be held June 3-5, 2013 in State College. PA-MAPPS will once again participate in this great event.

I want to wish everyone Happy Holidays. I look forward to a busy and prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,

Rob Rowe
PA-MAPPS President
