Now that my two-year term as MAPPS President nears its end, I am writing my last President’s Message. Over this term we have seen tremendous organizational change, increased collaboration with strategic partners, rising member engagement, influencing three geospatial bills signed by the President, and growth in new/returning members. All of this was made possible by your MAPPS Board of Directors and Staff and dedicated member firmsworking diligently to improve your association.
For a professional association to remain relevant, organizations must be dynamic, and member focused. Accomplishing these without losing sight of its mission and objectives was the challenge two years ago. MAPPS has made great strides improving its back-office and business acumen, as well as, becoming transparent with effective communications and media outreach. Accomplishing the above establishes a solid platform for our association to make even greater impacts in the geospatial community.
I have to be honest, witnessing 33 new and returning members joining MAPPS over the past two years was rewarding. However, seeing the benefits and vigorthat new members bring to our association provides even greater pleasure. Moreover, many of these newcomers were recommended by existing members which is a clear indication of membership satisfaction and belief in the current direction of MAPPS.
Having engaged members is one of the mainstays of a successful association. New committee chair volunteers, large number of Board candidates, and growth in conference attendance shows an enthusiasm to become involved, and helps make an impact for the betterment of our profession and firms. After all, isn’t that one of the main reasons we actively participate in MAPPS?
I am really looking forward to the next exciting chapter of MAPPS as Mark Brooks and the next Board of Directors position and guide MAPPS to even greater success in the future. The upcoming challenges are substantial, but a unified Board, Staff and membership are now positioned for success.
In closing my final President's Message, serving our members and my life-long geospatial profession was an honor and a blessing. I have been truly humbled by the support shown byMAPPS members and Staff, Board of Directors, strategic partners, Merrick, and my family. Without these people and their efforts, none of the above accomplishments would have been possible.
There is still time to join one of the largest Summer Conferences in recent MAPPS history.Register nowand I'll see you all in Park City and at future MAPPS meetings!
