PA-MAPPS Announces Election of Officers and Directors

PA-MAPPS, the Pennsylvania chapter of MAPPS, has announced its officers and directors for the association's board of directors and priorities for the chapter for 2012-13.
The board of directors of PA-MAPPS consists of :
  • President: Rob Rowe, GISP, RETTEW Associates, Inc. (State College, PA) 
  • President-Elect: Eric Orndorff, PLS, Herbert, Rowland & Grubic (HRG), Inc. (Harrisburg, PA)
  • Secretary: Len Subick, Gamm Air, Inc. (Spring City, PA)
  • Treasurer: Andrew Pickford, CP, GISP, BAE Systems (Mr. Laurel, NJ)
  • Director: Stephen Ellis, GISP, AeroMetric, Inc. (Lock Haven, PA)
"I am honored and privileged that my colleagues have trusted me with this important task as we strive to tackle issues relative to the geospatial profession," said Rob Rowe, PA-MAPPS President. "PA-MAPPS has worked diligently with other geospatial practitioner groups in Pennsylvania to advocate the need for a formal process to coordinate geospatial activities for the benefit of the citizens of the Commonwealth and we will continue those efforts. As part of our outreach, I hope to engage the university and surveying communities on ways that we can work together to provide education and workforce development providing market and job opportunities within the geospatial profession."
The board of directors announced the creation of committees to work with the surveying and university communities. The surveying committee will work with partners in Pennsylvania to provide education workshops on new technologies including mobile mapping, LiDAR and geographic information systems (GIS). The university committee will work with post secondary schools in Pennsylvania to support education programs to attract and prepare students for professional careers in the geospatial field. PA-MAPPS also has a legislative committee that will continue to work closely with other stakeholders in Pennsylvania to continue to make a geospatial coordination council a reality. HB 1701, legislation to create a council, has already passed the Pennsylvania state House of Representatives and is pending before a Senate committee.

PA-MAPPS, the first state chapter of MAPPS, is open to private firms in in photogrammetry, satellite and airborne remote sensing, hydrography, aerial and satellite image processing, surveying, GPS, and GIS data collection and conversion services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. PA-MAPPS has two membership categories; Member Firms: geospatial service firms with offices and employees based in Pennsylvania and Associate Members: companies that do business in but not having a physical office or businesses in the Commonwealth, or those that provide hardware, software, products and services to the geospatial profession in the Keystone State. Firms in PA MAPPS are also members of MAPPS.

Formed in 1982, MAPPS is the only national association exclusively comprised of private firms in the remote sensing, spatial data and geographic information systems field in the United States. The MAPPS membership spans the entire spectrum of the geospatial community, including Member Firms engaged in satellite and airborne remote sensing, surveying, photogrammetry, aerial photography, LIDAR, hydrography, bathymetry, charting, aerial and satellite image processing, GPS, and GIS data collection and conversion services. MAPPS also includes Associate Member Firms, which are companies that provide hardware, software, products and services to the geospatial profession in the United States and other firms from around the world. Independent Consultant Members are sole proprietors engaged in consulting in or to the geospatial profession, or provides a consulting service of interest to the geospatial profession.
MAPPS provides its 160+ member firms opportunities for networking and developing business-to-business relationships, information sharing, education, public policy advocacy, market growth, and professional development and image enhancement.
